I will only post products here that I have personally tried out and recommend.
- Audacity - Who knew I would love editing audio so much?! I'm married to a musician, so we have a full audio/recording studio in the house. He spent thousands on his programs, I spent nada. Audacity is a fantastic program for recording and editing audio. I didn't read a single thing on how to use it, and I was able to record, edit, and export audio files to be used in some online courses the same day I downloaded this program.
- Gimp - So Photoshop may be really cool, but not everyone has the budget to use it. Gimp, on the other hand, is affordable for everyone (free is all over the budget!). It has many of the same tools and effects PhotoShop offers, so it's a great alternative for image editing and effects. If you're totally new to the photo editing side, give the user manual a glance. It's well organized and has quick links to find just what you need.
- Microsoft Add In - Save as PDF - If you don't have Adobe Acrobat, but want to convert any Microsoft office document into a PDF, this is all you need. It's a quick download, and a great way to lock down your content!
- Pixie - This nifty little color grabber will run in your taskbar and allows you to "grab" the colors for anything shown on your page. I leave it on my desktop and use it regularly. It's a major time saver when I'm trying to match company colors for projects, and it lists colors for hex, RGB, html, and other codes.
- Youblisher - This is one that I didn't think I would use, but it brings new life to boring documents. You upload a PDF document (remember, you can get a PDF print option from Microsoft - see above!), and then Youblisher creates an interactive booklet you can "flip" through. It even lets you stop and zoom in on a section... or print the PDF or download the file. It adds a cool factor to boring documents in an online course.
